In February Brian Green presented a paper at Perpetual Motion: Transformation and Transition in Central, Eastern Europe, and Russia, a conference hosted by the University College of London. The paper, “Computer Possession and Social Structure: Change Over Time in Poland since 1989” (co-authored by Maciej Kryszczuk of Kozminski University in Warsaw), continues research that the authors have been working on for several years and seeks to explain both the causes and effects of household personal computer possession in Poland over the past 20 years.

Dr. Judith Reed (Education) and Dr. Janaki N. Tschannerl (Education) presented a workshop at the 26th Annual Teachers College Winter Roundtable at Columbia University in February. Entitled “We Just Want to Change the World: Teaching Toward Social Justice, Solidarity, and Activism,” the workshop included co-presenters from the World Educational Links program: mentor teacher Karen Saunders, intern teacher Atasi Das, and alumnus Chris Lievense. Workshop participants were invited to enter a dialogue regarding principles and models of multicultural and critical pedagogy, both in PK-12 classrooms and in teacher/counselor education, including teaching and organizing for empowerment and activism on part of teachers, counselors, and students alike.
