Marie Duggan (Economics) published “The Specter of Capital Flight,” an article on the financial crisis, in the Jan/Feb 2009 issue of Dollars & Sense.

Armagan Gezici and Marie Duggan (Economics) and two students from the economics department presented at the Eastern Economics Association on Feb. 27–March 1, 2009, in NYC. Marie presented a paper about Keynes’ proposals at the 1944 Bretton Woods monetary conference, and Armagan spoke on financial liberalization and the Turkish manufacturing sector. Student Zsofia Megyeri assessed whether privatization of industry benefited Argentina’s economy in the 1990s, and student Mark Manganiello examined whether Bill Clinton’s deficit-reduction success was due to good luck or good policy.

On February 24 Graham Warder and Matthew Crocker (History) gave a lively presentation to the student body of the Full Circle School of Bernardston, Massachusetts. Their talk, entitled “The Art and the Craft of History: A Users Guide,” discussed the modern and some not-so-modern methodologies historians working in the 21st century use to ply their trade. A discussion of primary source repositories both on and off the web were presented, as were examples of the historian’s final product, be it a book, article, or web site.
