Two independent-study photography students, Anastasia Dubrovina and Anne Johnson, will have their work featured in the 2013 Magenta Festival in Boston this May.

“It’s been amazing working with these two and seeing them develop as young artists,” said Assistant Professor of Art Jonathan Gitelson. “They are two of the most self-motivated students I’ve encountered in my three years at Keene, and I’m so proud of their recent accomplishment. This is a big deal!”

Both students create their art in unique ways. “My approach to photography has been to set up scenes and have my friends be a part of the environment. I’m inspired by dreams and different interpretations of reality,” Anastasia explained.

“I approach photography with an open mind, with broad ideas trusting that, when I begin a shoot, all the elements I’m trying to incorporate will flow together,” Anne said. “I never think too much about what props to use or what my main message is supposed to be, and in the end I am always content with the outcome. It is so exciting to see the results!” Anne’s photograph is also going to be used as a press image for the exhibition catalogue.

The exhibit opens Friday, May 10, from 6–10 p.m. at the Nave Gallery Annex 53 Chester St, Somerville, MA 02144.
