Nora Guthrie to Receive Keene State Honorary Degree

Keene State College will recognize Nora Guthrie with an honorary doctor of humane letters for her contributions to preserving the legacy of legendary folk artist, Woody Guthrie.

Nora’s dedication to continuing Woody’s legacy and fostering an appreciation for folk music is commendable. Woody’s songs have been sung by school children for decades, and have influenced the modern music of many famous artists.

As president of Woody Guthrie Publications, and through the sharing of treasured materials that documented her father’s life and work, Nora offers a fresh interpretation of Woody’s work for the public many years after his death. For more than 20 years, Nora has led a great number of successful ventures in honor of Woody’s legacy. Ms. Guthrie will be the featured speaker for this year’s Keene State College commencement ceremony.
