University of Vermont Recognizes Dr. Huot for Commitment to Academic Excellence and Student Success

Keene State College announces that President Anne Huot, a University of Vermont alumna, is being honored by her alma mater with the 2016 Medical Alumni Association Distinguished Graduate Alumni Award. Dr. Huot graduated with an MS in 1988 and PhD in 1990.

“We are fortunate to have Anne Huot, a very accomplished alumna, returning to campus to accept the Larner College of Medicine Distinguished Graduate Alumni award. The 2014 and 2015 Graduate Alumni award has gone to alumni who have had strong biotech/pharma careers. 2016 is special since Dr. Huot has had tremendous success in academic administration, a category we have not yet celebrated,” said University of Vermont Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Larner College of Medicine Dr. Sean Diehl.

The University of Vermont noted, “Dr. Anne Huot has dedicated her 23 year career to the transformative power of education and the opportunities higher education presents for contributing to and bettering society. She has focused her attention on academic excellence as her highest priority. Her work has been directed toward developing systems and programming that encourage and support student learning and success, and preparation for active citizenship and meaningful careers. A former member of the University of Vermont faculty for 14 years, including serving in the role of Graduate College executive dean, she has said that her training as a scientist informs her work as a university leader, allowing her to see problems from multiple angles, test hypotheses, and use data to inform decision making.”

“I am honored and humbled to accept this award. During my time at the University of Vermont I deepened my love for discovery and had the privilege of engaging a number of undergraduate and graduate students in my research laboratory. That experience has significantly influenced my commitment to engaging students early in their education with hands on experiences that require them to work successfully in teams,” said Dr. Huot. “I am grateful to my alma mater for the opportunity to learn, acquire skills that serve me well today, and explore the many opportunities that are available in the life of a scientist.”
