Keene State College Recognized by Monadnock Center for Violence Prevention as Above & Beyond Community Partner

Decades of Working Together for Community Benefit Celebrated

Keene State College was recognized last night as Monadnock Center for Violence Prevention’s (MCVP) Above & Beyond Community Partner during MCVP’s annual meeting and 35th anniversary kick off celebration. Keene State was selected for this honor because of its ongoing collaboration with MCVP on building awareness to prevent violence.

“We are honored to receive this recognition, and are grateful for the support we have received from MCVP over the years,” said Forrest Seymour, counselor and coordinator of sexual violence prevention and education at Keene State College. “We will continue to work closely to engage the Keene State community in prevention of violence, and promote awareness that we all have a critical role to play in protecting one another.”

This year will mark the seventh year that Keene State College has raised funds for MCVP from an annual event called Walk a Mile in Her Shoes Men’s March to End Rape, Sexual Assault and Gender Violence. In 2012, the program raised more than $20,000 for the organization. In addition, Keene State has a long history of working with MCVP to involve students in the prevention of violence on campus – from training resident assistants in residence halls on how to prevent violence, to educating first-year students through a program that aims to empower students to take action against violence.

This year’s Walk a Mile in Her Shoes Men’s March to End Rape, Sexual Assault and Gender Violence will be held on Saturday, April 20, 2013 and is open and free to the public. More information on the event is online at www.kscwalkamile.com.
