KEENE, N.H., 1/24/2010 - Keene State College’s Redfern Arts Center and the Colonial Theatre have partnered to present a week of exciting dance performances this February.

The series begins with a show by the vibrant young dancers of Ailey II at the Colonial on Friday, February 11 at 8 p.m., followed by a performance of Way of the Funk by the world-famous Philadanco at the Redfern on Tuesday, February 15 at 7:30 p.m. Ticket prices range from $39 to $25 for Ailey II and $26 to $10 (KSC students $5) for Philadanco; in addition, the two theatres are offering a special ticket discount that provides prime seating to both shows for only $50.

Founded in partnership with the acclaimed Alvin Ailey dance company, Ailey II has become recognized as a showcase for the finest young talents of contemporary African-American dance. The 12 members of Ailey II are selected from the student body of the Ailey School by Artistic Director Sylvia Waters, under whose direction the junior Ailey company has flourished since its creation in 1974. Ailey II’s performance at The Colonial will offer audiences an unforgettable evening with a dance company that has been described by the Los Angeles Times as “indefatigable, virtuosic and relentlessly sexy.”

In addition to Ailey II, local dance lovers can also check out the equally dazzling Philadelphia Dance Company (Philadanco) at the Redfern Arts Center. Philadanco’s remarkable dancers have electrified audiences across the world with their innovative choreography and limitless range. Presenting a program that moves effortlessly from neoclassical to modern styles, Philadanco has developed a legendary reputation as one of world’s most dynamic dance companies. New York Magazine describes Philadanco’s unique style as “visceral - fierce and sensuous by turns - elegant, and ingratiating.”

Tickets and information for both shows are available at the Box Offices of the Colonial Theatre (603-352-2033; http://www.thecolonial.org ) and the Redfern Arts Center (603-358-2168; www.keene.edu/racbp).
