KEENE, N.H., 11/24/08 - Keene State College has announced its Class of 2009 Alumni Athletic Hall of Fame inductees. The new inductees, from three different decades, include Bob Lund, class of 1975, contributor; Sean Kenny, class of 1986, men’s soccer player; Lindsey Blood Prichard, class of 2000, softball player; David Stantial, class of 2003, men’s basketball player; Mark Miller, class of 2003, men’s cross country and track athlete; and Mary Proulx, class of 2003, women’s cross country and track athlete. The induction ceremony and dinner will take place Saturday, January 24, at 6:45 p.m. at the Lloyd P. Young Student Center.

Because the induction takes place during Keene State’s centennial celebration, the College has invited back to campus the 79 athletes, coaches, and contributors who are members of the Hall of Fame.

The voice of the Owls, Bob Lund has brought Keene State and local college and high school sports action to the Monadnock area during his award-winning 35 years in radio and as a writer for several publications. Lund, who grew up playing sports on the ball fields of Keene and later at Keene High and Keene State, has been a strong advocate for local sports athletes and teams. Currently heard on WEEI 93.5, Lund’s passion for the area’s sports resonates in his play-by-play calls and daily sports reports.

Although he played just two seasons (1983-84) for the Keene State men’s soccer team, Sean Kenny, originally from Dublin, Ireland, and now living in Mount Vernon, N.Y., is recognized as one of the top midfielders to don a red and white Owl uniform. A junior transfer from Westchester Community College in N.Y., Kenny was a two-time All-American and All-New England player whose hard- nosed play and leadership set an example for his teammates and drew respect from his opponents. As a junior, he led Keene State to its first NCAA Division II tournament appearance.

A four-year member of the Keene State softball team from 1996 to 1999, Lindsey Blood Prichard was one of the program’s top hurlers who excelled as both a starter and in a relief role. Known for her infamous rise ball, the Center Harbor, N.H., native was a three-time All-Region pitcher who led Division II in saves (6) as a sophomore and Division III in strikeouts (193) as a senior. Named KSC’s female Athlete of the Year in 1998, Blood Prichard, who holds the school career strikeout record (513), helped lead the Owls to their first LEC tournament championship in 1999 and into the finals of the NCAA Northeast Regional tournament.

Dave Stantial played a pivotal role putting Keene State on the map as a Division III men’s basketball power during his four-year (1998-02) Owl career. Capping his Owl career by earning All-American, All-Region, and Little East Player of the Year honors as a senior, the Beverly, Mass., native not only excelled in all facets of the game, but had the ability to elevate his level of play when the game was on the line. During his tenure, the Owls claimed their first LEC regular season championship (2002), advanced twice to the LEC finals (2001 and 2002), and made three ECAC tournament appearances. KSC’s male Athlete of the Year in 2002, Stantial is currently third in scoring (1,519 points) and first in three-point baskets made (280).

Two of Keene State’s most honored athletes, Mary Proulx and Mark Miller, who both competed in cross country and track from 1999-2003, justifiably earned induction into the Hall of Fame in their first year of eligibility.

The first female track All-American and national champion at KSC, Proulx was a five-time national champion and 15-time All-American. A three-time cross country All-American, she placed fourth in the 2002 championship. Proulx, from Ashland, N.H., won both 3,000 and 5,000 meter at the outdoor NCAA championships in 2001, the 5,000 and 10,000 the following spring in 2002, and the outdoor 10K as a senior. In 30 years of NCAA Division III track and field, Proulx, KSC’s female Athlete of the Year in 2002 and 2003, is among the top runners in the 1,500 and 5,000 and is the fastest woman ever in the 10,000 event.

The second men’s national champion at Keene State, Miller completed his career as four-time national champion and 10-time All-American. A two-time cross country All-American for the Owls (2000 and 2001), the Shelburne Falls, Mass., native shined on the track. Miller, KSC’s male Athlete of the Year in 2003, captured both the indoor and outdoor 1,500-meter titles in 2001, the outdoor 1,500 in 2002, and the indoor 1,500 championship in 2003.

Tickets to the induction ceremony and dinner are $30 per person. For tickets and more information, please contact the KSC athletic department at 358-2813.
