Aquila Theatre Co. Presents A Midsummer Night's Dream

KEENE, N.H., 10/5/2010 - Keene State College’s Redfern Arts Center presents the Aquila Theatre Company’s production of William Shakespeare’s romantic comedy A Midsummer Night’s Dream on Tuesday, October 26, at 7:30 p.m. in the Main Theatre. In addition, Aquila will perform a morning show for students on Monday, October 25, at 9:30 a.m.

Both performances are co-presented with The Colonial Theatre in Keene, and will be followed by question-and-answer sessions with the company. Ticket prices range from $31 for the general public to $12 for children, and $5 for Keene State students.

Audiences are invited to come early and meet the Aquila Theatre Company before the show. These Meet-and-Greets with the artists are hosted by the Redfern and its staff. They will be held before each Visiting Artist’s performance throughout the year. They begin at 6:30 p.m.; light refreshments will be served.

Founded in 1991 by Peter Meineck, the New York City-based Aquila Theatre Company is one of the country’s most renowned and prolific producers of touring classical theatre, visiting 60-70 American cities each year. Last season, Aquila delighted audiences in Europe and the United States with their productions of Shakespeare’s As You Like It and Ibsen’s An Enemy of the People. Other recent shows have included The Iliad: Book One, Catch-22, Prometheus Bound, and many more. These marvelous productions “consistently command attention and admiration” (The New York Times) from audiences around the world.

For one of their most acclaimed performances to date, Aquila revives Shakespeare’s beloved classic A Midsummer Night’s Dream. In this timeless comedy, a quartet of star-crossed lovers escapes to an enchanted forest, where their romantic ambitions become entangled with the mischievous machinations of a fairy queen and her jealous husband. Brought to life by Aquila’s “superb acting and clever staging” (The New Yorker), this production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream offers audiences a dazzlingly original interpretation of an old favorite.
