Keene State College Offers Sympathy to Walpole Community After Elementary School Shooting

Keene State College officials learned that on February 10, 2012, a student of Walpole Elementary School shot himself. A Keene State College student was present in the school for student teaching duties - the student is safe.

President of Keene State College, Helen Giles-Gee, offered the following statement.

“On behalf of the entire Keene State College community we wish to offer our heartfelt sympathy and support to the Walpole community; our neighbors. We are deeply saddened when youth - any student - is harmed.

A range of support will be offered to the student teacher who was present at the school when the shooting took place. Our first concern is the safety and well-being of our community.”

The Keene State College community has counseling support available. For counseling support please contact the Keene State College Counseling Center Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. in Elliot Hall or call 603-358-2437. Twenty-four hour crisis support is available by calling 603-358-2436.
