Keene State College Chamber Singers Partner with Hundred Nights Shelter

Group Promotes Awareness of Homelessness and Donates Portion of Concert Proceeds

Keene, NH, November 28, 2011: This holiday season Keene State College Chamber Singers is partnering with the Hundred Nights Shelter in Keene to help the shelter with donations, perform for the shelter, offer free tickets to a campus concert, and to raise awareness about the issue of homelessness. Hundred Nights Shelter was founded by Keene State alumni, Donald Primrose. The shelter opened on January 5, 2010. More on the shelter can be found online at www.hundrednights.org.

This partnership is part of a larger community engagement effort. Each semester, the Keene State College Chamber Singers work with a local organization to help our community. The program encourages and empowers Keene State students to understand and contribute to community needs. The Chamber Singers will partner with Stonewall Farm in the spring 2012 semester, and Monadnock Conservancy during the fall 2012 semester.

“Our work with local organizations helps build wisdom and empathy for people who face difficult situations - in many cases, any one of us could face the same challenges,” said Keene State College Assistant Professor or Music Education, Sandra Howard. “We look forward to working with Hundred Nights Shelter this year - the organization serves our community in such an important way, and we are happy to be able to give back.”

The Keene State College community and Keene residents are invited to attend a campus concert entitled “Songs from Sunlight to Twilight” to help support Hundred Nights Shelter. Nonperishable food items will be collected at the concert.
