Fun and Learning for Children at Keene State College's Kids on Campus

KEENE, N.H., 05/05/10 - Your first through ninth grader has fun while learning in any of the 39 different sessions Kids on Campus offers this summer. Babysitting training taught by Red Cross personnel, becoming a naturalist, creating Lego machines, building a model of your dream house, learning French, creating a rock band, making puppets, exploring space and imagining alien life, making different musical instruments from recycled materials with instructor Purly Gates, and taking an imaginary African safari are among classes offered.

Sessions are taught by teachers from local schools, Keene State College faculty, and other experts.

Parents walk students to the classroom and pick them up from that same location. Parents supply snacks and drinks for break time and lunch for students staying a full day. KSC staff meets all-day students after morning class, accompanying them to the lunch area before walking them to afternoon classes. All breaks are supervised.

Per week, the cost per child is $125 for a half day and $200 for a full day. Weekly cost for extended morning and afternoon care is an additional $50. Kids on Campus runs for four weeks: June 28 to July 2, July 12 to 16, July 19 to 23, and July 26 to 30. Morning classes run from 9 a.m. to noon with afternoon classes running from 1 to 4 p.m. Morning and afternoon care is available.

While sessions are suggested for first through third graders, fourth through sixth graders, and seventh through ninth graders, what is more important is your child’s interest in the topic.

Prompt registration is advisable. With the exception of Legos and its limit of 20 students, classes top out at 12 attendees. Kids on Campus, a Keene State College Continuing Education and Extended Studies summer program, is now in its fifth summer.

Kids on Campus details and registration are available electronically. You can also request a brochure from Keene State College, Continuing Education (358-2290) or stop by the office (229 Main Street, Elliot Center, Keene) to pick one up from the information rack outside the office.
