Prominent Scholar Featured at KSC Holocaust Remembrance

KEENE, N.H., 4/7/10 - Dr. Michael Berenbaum, director of the Sigi Ziering Institute at the American Jewish University, will present at Keene State College’s Holocaust Remembrance Day event on Wednesday, April 14, at 7 p.m. in the Mable Brown Room of the Young Student Center. The evening will include presentations by the 2010 winners of the Charles Hildebrandt Holocaust Studies Award and the Susan J. Herman Award for Leadership in Holocaust and Genocide Awareness.

Dr. Berenbaum is an American scholar, professor, rabbi, writer, and filmmaker who specializes in the study of the memorialization of the Holocaust. He was instrumental in the creation of the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum (USHMM) in Washington D.C. and served as their project director and director of the USHMM’s Holocaust Research Institute for a number of years. He is the author and editor of 16 books and many scholarly articles and journalistic pieces. His work as co-producer of One Survivor Remembers: The Gerda Weissman Klein Story earned an Academy Award, an Emmy Award, and a Cable Ace Award.

Berenbaum was executive producer of Swimming in Auschwitz and was a consultant for Defiance and Uprising, among other Holocaust-related films and documentaries.
