KSC Guitar Orchestra & Latin American Music Ensemble

KEENE, N.H., 3/23/10 - The Keene State College Music Department presents its Guitar Orchestra and Latin American Music Ensemble, directed by José Lezcano, in a joint concert on Wednesday, April 14, 2010, at 7:30 p.m. in the Alumni Recital Hall, Redfern Arts Center on Brickyard Pond.

The Guitar Orchestra features music in a wide range of styles and time periods, including Antonio Vivaldi’s Concerto Grosso, op. 8, no. 3 (with Joey Mintel and Colin Isotti as soloists), Fernando Sor’s Rondo in C Major, Brazilian composer Celso Machado’s Two Northeast Dances, and Vasija de Barro, a traditional Ecuadorean danzante arranged for guitar ensemble and charango. In addition, there will be a special performance of Lezcano’s newest work, So the Poet Will Be Heard: Homenaje to Victor Jara for guitar ensemble and narrator (with KSC faculty member Patricia Pedroza). This work was commissioned by The Boston Guitar Society and Meet The Composer, and will receive its world premiere in early April at the Society’s Festival 21. The Latin American Music Ensemble will open the concert with a performance of Andean dances for panpipes, guitars, and charango.

Admission is $10 for the general public and $5 for KSC students, senior citizens, and youth ages 17 and under. Tickets will be available at the door, or call the box office at 603-358-2168.
