An Evening of Orchestral Favorites

KEENE, N.H., 11/20/08 - The Keene State College Chamber Orchestra, conducted by KSC artist-in-residence Don Baldini, will perform “An Evening of Orchestral Favorites” on Friday, Dec. 5, at 7:30 p.m. at the Redfern Arts Center on Brickyard Pond. Admission is $10 for the general public and $5 for KSC students, senior citizens, and youth ages 17 and younger. Rossini’s Overture to the Barber of Seville, Mozart’s Concerto for Bassoon, Kol Nidrei for Cello Solo (a Jewish prayer) by Max Bruch, Franz Schubert’s Symphony no. 8 (Unfinished), and selections from Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker ballet will be among the familiar favorites on the program.

Two KSC student soloists will be featured during the performance. Music performance major Amanda Kosloski ‘08 (bassoon) will perform Mozart’s Concerto for Bassoon, and music education major Greg Dippell ‘09 (cello) will be featured during Max Bruch’s Kol Nidrei.

Baldini came to KSC after appearing for thirteen years with The Tonight Show Orchestra and touring with Frank Sinatra, Johnny Mathis, Peggy Lee, and the Harry James and Toshiko Akiyoshi/Lew Tabakin bands.

Baldini currently appears with the Vermont Symphony Orchestra and Opera North, as well as several local chamber music and jazz groups. In addition to conducting the KSC Chamber Orchestra, he also directs the KSC Jazz Ensemble, which will perform on Wednesday, Dec. 3, at 7:30 p.m. in the Redfern Arts Center.

The KSC Chamber Orchestra is comprised primarily of KSC students and includes some community members.
