Georgia Guitar Quartet Opens Redfern Season

KEENE, NH 9/11/08 - The Georgia Guitar Quartet, an exciting new voice in today’s chamber music scene, will open the 2008 - 09 season at Keene State College’s Redfern Arts Center on Brickyard Pond on Saturday, October 4 at 7:30 p.m. The Redfern is dedicating this season of music, theatre, and dance to Keene State’s year long centennial celebration. The Quartet will also conduct a free and public lecture demonstration at noon that Saturday.

The four young men from the American South deliver a high-energy blend of breathtaking virtuosity and imaginative programming while taking an adventurous approach to classical music. Borrowing from both the past and present, the GGQ consistently draws inspiration from the ever-evolving palette of music that has influenced them - classical masters such as Bach and Brahms and experimentalists in the vein of Cage, Bartók, and Stockhausen.

Audiences at a GGQ concert experience an exciting musical journey through an expansive array of genres, continents, and time periods. Rousing Irish folk music and late Impressionistic masterpieces share the stage, and the sublime beauty of Chopin rubs shoulders with contemporary works.

GGQ’s Redfern performance will feature classical works by Michael Praetorius, Domenico Scarlatti, Frédéric Chopin, Edvard Grieg, and Federico Moreno Torroba, among others. In a more contemporary vein, GGQ will play compositions by Kyle Dawkins, Vince Guaraldi, and Nikita Koshkin. Audio clips of GGQ performance excerpts are available at their website www.georgiaguitarquartet. com/medias.htm..

Tickets are available through the Redfern box office, 603-358-2168 or on line at www.keene.edu/racbp. Ticket prices are $18 for the general public, $15 for seniors and KSC faculty and staff, $10 for youth 17 and younger, and $5 for KSC students w/ID.

Tickets are also available for all of the Redfern’s presenting events and for performances by the departments of Music and Theatre and Dance. Patrons can still purchase 20/20 memberships that enable them to receive a 20% discount for all Presenting Series performances.
