Keene State College Emergency Systems Testing on April 23

KEENE, N.H. 4/17/08 - Keene State College will be testing a newly installed emergency siren warning system on Wed., Apr. 23, between 1 and 2 p.m. A series of combined voice and siren warnings will be activated several times so that the system can be adjusted for optimal volume, range, and clarity.

Officials are not sure how loud the siren will be or how far the sound will carry; the College has notified emergency response departments of the City of Keene and Cheshire County.

The siren is part of a larger emergency plan in place to alert students and staff in the event of a disaster. The College will also be testing the CityWatch Emergency Notification System, which sends emergency messages to enrolled campus members via SMS (text) message, cellular telephone and/or e-mail to the Keene State community. For more information on CityWatch, visit www.keene.edu/campussafety/ens.cfm; for more information on the siren system, visit www.keene.edu/cro/currentcn.cfm#1.
