KSC Faculty Artists Recital To Feature Works by Brahms and Schubert
KEENE, N.H., 04/01/08 - Keene State College faculty members will be joined by guest artists in a recital of works by Johannes Brahms and Franz Schubert, Tuesday, April 15, at 7:30 p.m. in the Alumni Recital Hall of the Redfern Arts Center on Brickyard Pond. Admission is $10 for the general public and $5 for KSC students, senior citizens, and youth ages 17 and younger. For tickets, call the box office at 603-358-2168.
Schubert’s Octet in F Major will be performed by KSC faculty Kathy Andrew (violin), Marcia Lehninger (violin), Joseph Darby (viola), Donald Baldini (double bass), John Ferraro (clarinet), Joy Flemming (bassoon), Karen Horton (French horn), and guest artist David Runnion (cello). In addition, Kathy Andrew (violin), George Loring (piano), and guest artist Jean Jeffries (French horn) will present Brahms’s Horn Trio, Opus 40.
Kathy Andrew is an adjunct instructor of violin and viola. She resides in Brattleboro, Vermont, where she is an active freelance violinist and instructor. She currently performs with the Springfield Symphony Orchestra, the Vermont Symphony Orchestra, Opera North, and the New England Bach Festival.
Don Baldini is currently an artist-in-residence at KSC and appears with the Vermont Symphony Orchestra, the Dartmouth Symphony, and Opera North.
Joseph Darby is associate professor of music and chairperson of the Department of Music at Keene State. He performs with the Monadnock Chorus Orchestra, Keene Chamber Orchestra, and other faculty and guest artist appearances.
John Ferraro is an adjunct professor of clarinet at Keene State. He is principal clarinet with the Monadnock Chorus Orchestra and is a member of the Massachusetts Wind Orchestra. He also appears throughout western and central Massachusetts performing chamber and orchestral music.
Joy Flemming is an adjunct professor of bassoon. She is a founding member of Festival Chamber Music and principal bassoonist with the Keene Chamber Orchestra and Raylynmor Opera Orchestra. She has performed with the Granite State Orchestra, Opera North, the Dartmouth Symphony Orchestra, and the Keene State Orchestra.
Karen Horton is an adjunct professor of French horn and a former member of the Orquesta Filarmonica de Caracas and the Orquesta Municipal de Caracas, Venezuela. After returning to the United States, she appeared with many ensembles in Connecticut and played principal horn with the Wallingford and New Britain Symphonies. She has been a faculty member at KSC since 2001.
Marcia Lehninger is an adjunct professor of music and has performed with the Hartford Symphony, Eastern Connecticut Symphony, Ridgefield Symphony, Waterbury Symphony, Orchestra New England, Brazilian Symphonic Orchestra, and Pro Musica Symphony. She teaches music theory and music appreciation at Keene State.
George Loring is an artist-in-residence at Keene State and frequently performs throughout New England as a soloist, collaborative artist, and chamber musician. He has performed in Austria, the Czech Republic, Denmark, England, Finland, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Norway, Portugal, Scotland, Spain, Sweden, Hawaii, and on New Hampshire public radio and television.
