Devil's Highway Author to Speak at Keene State College

KEENE, N.H., 3/13/08 - Luis Alberto Urrea, the author of The Devil’s Highway, will speak at Keene State College on Wed., Mar. 26, at 7 p.m. in the Mabel Brown Room. This event is free and open to the public.

First-year students at the College and many other members of the community read The Devil’s Highway last summer as part of this year’s Keene Is Reading program feature. Throughout the year they have been discussing it in various ways, including debates about immigration in this year’s New Hampshire political season. Urrea will be on campus to talk about his book, answer questions, and meet students who have been involved in this program.

There will be a performance and discussion by Alturas Duo of “No Mas Muertes” (“No More Deaths”) at noon on Wed., Mar. 26, in the Lantern Room, Student Center. “No Mas Muertes” is written for guitar, viola, and narrator and uses text from The Devil’s Highway.
