KSC Recital Features Pianist Wallace-Boaz and Saxophonist Sylvern

KEENE, N.H., 01/28/08 - The Keene State Department of Music welcomes guest artist Krista Wallace-Boaz, who will join KSC Music Department faculty member Craig Sylvern on Wednesday, February 20, at 7:30 p.m. in the Alumni Recital Hall of the Redfern Arts Center on Brickyard Pond. Admission is $10 for the general public and $5 for KSC students, senior citizens, and youth ages 17 and younger. For tickets, call the box office at 603-358-2168.

Wallace-Boaz and Sylvern will play L’Isle Joyeuse by Claude Debussy and Intermezzo, Op. 118, no. 1 by Johannes Brahms. The performance will include a piece written for Wallace-Boaz by Walter S. Hartley entitled Suite for Piano. Pieces by Nicola Porpora, William Duckworth, Michael G. Cunningham, and Lawson Lunde will also be performed.

Wallace-Boaz serves as an administrator, instructor, and interim director of Graduate Studies at the University of Louisville School of Music. She has performed as a soloist and chamber musician in concerts across the United States and Europe - including Russia, Belgium, England - and for Chicago’s Dame Myra Hess national radio concert series. She has also been a member of the Trio Bel Canto since 2003.

Sylvern is a member of the KSC Department of Music and coordinates the annual Faculty Composers Concert, now in its seventh year and scheduled for March 4. He has performed with symphony orchestras in Florida, South Carolina, Ohio, California, New York, Connecticut, and New Hampshire. For years, Sylvern has toured as tenor saxophonist with Keith Brion and his New Sousa Band.

In addition to teaching and performing, Sylvern is an active presenter and most recently spoke at the Sixth Annual Hawaii International Conference on Arts and Humanities in January 2008.
