KSC Faculty Performs Work by Composers Françaix and Martinu

Keene N.H., 2/12/2008 - Keene State College’s music faculty will perform works by two 20th-century composers, Jean Françaix and Bohuslav Martinu. The recital will be held on Friday, February 15, 2008, in the Alumni Recital Hall at the Redfern Arts Center on Brickyard Pond.

Trio for Oboe, Bassoon, and Piano by French composer Jean Françaix, will be performed by the Monadnock Trio, featuring Sussan Henkel (oboe), Joy Flemming (bassoon), and George Loring (piano).

Robin Matathias (flute), Perri Zimmerman (cello), and Maura Glennon (piano) will play Trio for Flute, Cello, and Piano by Bohemian Czech Republic composer Bohuslav Martinu. Other pieces for guitar and piano will also be performed by George Loring and José Lezcano.

Sussan Henkel has been a member of the KSC faculty for more than 16 years and performs regularly with the Keene Chamber Orchestra, Raylynmor Opera Company, and other New England musical groups.

Joy Flemming is a founding member of Festival Chamber Music and principal bassoonist with the Keene Chamber Orchestra and Raylynmor Opera Orchestra. She has performed with the Granite State Orchestra, Opera North, the Dartmouth Symphony Orchestra, and the Keene State Orchestra.

George Loring is an artist-in-residence with Keene State’s Department of Music and has played with the Lakes Region Symphony Orchestra, the New Hampshire Philharmonic, and the Jupiter Symphony of New York City. He has performed in Austria, the Czech Republic, Denmark, England, Finland, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Norway, Portugal, Scotland, Spain, Sweden, and Hawaii.

José Lezcano is a professor of music at KSC and has performed with the Granite State Symphony, the Keene Chamber Orchestra, the North-South Consonance Orchestra, the National Symphony of Ecuador, and in China for Apple Hill’s “Playing for Peace.” He has also performed at festivals in Rio, Lima, Quinto, the Czech Republic, Germany, and Columbia.

Robin Matathias teaches flute at KSC, the Brattleboro Music Center, and the Putney School in Vermont and has performed on both the East and West Coasts in orchestra, opera, chamber, and jazz ensembles.

Perri Zimmerman is an adjunct teacher at Keene State and performs with the Hanover Chamber Orchestra, the Bennington Choral Society, Dartmouth College’s Opera North, Abilene Opera in Texas, and the Vermont Symphony Orchestra.

Maura Glennon is an associate professor of music at Keene State and has performed with the Florida Orchestra, Monadnock Chorus Orchestra, Keene State College Orchestra, and Karlovy Vary Symphony Orchestra of the Czech Republic.
