KSC Hosts Annual Academic Excellence Conference

KEENE, N.H., 3/27/07 - Join Keene State College students and their sponsors to learn about some of the most ambitious academic work of the 2006-07 year at the College’s Seventh Annual Academic Excellence Conference on Saturday, March 31.

Designed to increase the visibility of students’ academic work and the collaborative work between students and faculty, the conference takes place in the College’s Media Arts Center, Science Center, and Student Center.

The first presentations begin at 9:40 a.m., and the last presentations begin at 3:55 p.m. and end at 4:25 p.m. Provost Mel Netzhammer will welcome guests at the Presenters’ Luncheon in the Zorn Dining Commons at 12:45 p.m. Dr. Melinda Treadwell will give the luncheon keynote address.

This year there are 66 oral and poster presentations, exhibits, panel discussions, and workshops, with topics, including “Using Rap Routines to Assess Content Knowledge in Physical Education,” “Humanizing Poverty: Faces from Southern Africa,” “The Design of a New Child-Centered Facility for Monadnock Family Services,” “Funny Things Are Everywhere: A Snapshot of the Microbial Diversity in the Keene State College Compost Pile,” “From Chalk Dust to Pixels: Real-Time Manipulation of Graphic Images in a Classroom,” and “The Art of Protest: The Role of Art in the History of Protest.”

The Academic Excellence Conference is a shared commitment between Academic and Student Affairs in support of student academic enhancement and success. The conference is cosponsored by the Honors and Enrichment Program, the Student Center Office of Programs and Leadership Development, and the Student Assembly.
