Keene State Graphic Design Seniors Show Portfolios December 2

KEENE, N.H. 11/16/05 - Keene State College seniors majoring in graphic design will open their portfolios for public review on Friday, Dec. 2, from 4 to 7 p.m. in the Thorne-Sagendorph Art Gallery conference room.

Members of the local business community are encouraged to attend the event and review the portfolios of these seven graphic design seniors, who are prepared for design-related careers such as publishing, advertising, web design, and multi-media graphics. Students’ friends and family and community members also are invited to the portfolio review, which is free. Refreshments will be served. For further information, call the KSC Department of Art at 603-358-2040.

Graphic design has become such a popular major at KSC that applicants to the program must now submit design work samples. In addition to portfolios, some seniors will be using computers to show their design work, said graphic design instructor Robert Kostick, who is coordinating the portfolio review.

The portfolio review showcases the best design work each student has produced while pursuing a bachelor of arts or a bachelor of fine arts at Keene State. Graphic design students are required to take a portfolio seminar in which they prepare a professional presentation of their work. During this class, seniors may develop new pieces and refine work completed in other art and graphic design classes.

The portfolio review coincides with The League of New Hampshire Craftsmen 24th Biennial Members’ Juried Exhibition. The artistry and craftmaking skills of more than 65 juried and supporting members of the League will be on display. The exhibition will be at the Thorne-Sagendorph Art Gallery at Keene State College through Dec. 8. The exhibition features fine handcrafts in basketry, clay, fiber, glass, jewelry, mixed-media, photography, printmaking, and wood accents and furniture.

The portfolio review and exhibit are free and open to the public. For exhibit information, call the Thorne Gallery at 603-358-2720 or visit www.keene.edu/tsag.
