Gates Performs in Keene State College Music Recital

KEENE, N.H. 11/16/05 - Gwendalyn Gates, daughter of Robert and Mary Gates of Corbettsville, N.Y., will perform her senior music recital on Sunday, Dec. 4, at 3 p.m. at Keene State College’s Redfern Arts Center on Brickyard Pond. The Keene State Department of Music will present the recital free of charge. For further information, call 603-358-2177.

Gates, a senior music major at KSC, will perform Alexander Goedicke’s Concert Etude and Arcangelo Corelli’s Sonata VIII. She also will play Portrait of a Trumpet by Sammy Nestico and Concerto in E-flat Major by Joseph Haydn. She will be accompanied by Keene State lecturer Elizabeth Blood, piano. Gates is a student of KSC trumpet instructor James Boccia.

While at Keene State, Gates has performed with the KSC Concert Band, the KSC Jazz Band, and the KSC Trumpet Ensemble. She is also on the Dean’s List for the 2004-05 school year. Gates, a graduate of Susquehanna Valley High School, also has played with the Broome Community College Jazz Band and Concert Band.

All senior music majors are required to present a public recital to meet graduation requirements for a music degree from Keene State. The students are responsible for organizing all aspects of a recital from music selection to technical direction, publicity, and the program.

Students interested in music may opt for one of three programs: bachelor of music in music education, bachelor of music in music performance, or a bachelor of arts in music. Keene State offers more than 35 major programs of study and has an enrollment of 5,235 full and part-time students with more than 100 students choosing to major or minor in music.
