Public Auction Announced for Dining Hall Equipment

KEENE, N.H. 11/21/05 - Whether you’re looking for a stack of cafeteria trays, four dozen nine-inch dinner plates, or a three-bin deep fryer system, you’re welcome to make a bid when Keene State College auctions hundreds of items from its old dining hall.

The auction takes place Monday, Dec. 5, at 10 a.m., at the former Zorn Dining Commons, on Keene State’s pedestrian boulevard, Appian Way. Previews start at 8 a.m. There are no minimum bids; everything goes to the highest bidder, whether the bidder is a restaurant owner or just a family needing some office shelves.

Keene State opened its new Zorn Dining Commons on Oct. 31. The facility, significantly larger than the previous building, offers spacious seating, themed dining kiosks, and wireless Internet access. The old facility now stands empty, except for the equipment and furnishings to be sold at the Dec. 5 auction. The sale is being conducted by Richard Basinger Auctioneers of Ohio, which specializes in items from the food industry.

After the building is emptied, an ambitious renovation, Phase 1 of the Media Arts Center, will prepare the building to house Film Studies, Graphic Design, and Communication/Journalism. The Keene State College Master Plan calls for a major new Visual and Media Arts Center on that site in the long-term.
