Holocaust Speaker Discusses WWII German Priests

KEENE, N.H. 4/13/05 - Professor Kevin Spicer of Stonehill College will address the topic “Serving God and Hitler: German Catholic Priests and the Nazi Party” at the 8th Annual Charles Hildebrandt Holocaust Studies Awards ceremony on Monday, April 18, at 7:30 p.m. in the Redfern Arts Center at Keene State College. The event is sponsored by KSC’s Cohen Center for Holocaust Studies.

The ceremony will honor winners of this year’s Hildebrandt Awards, awarded for outstanding scholarly and creative work on the Holocaust by KSC students, middle and high school students, and community members. The event is scheduled to observe Yom HaShoah, the international day of remembrance for the Holocaust, observed this year on May 5.

Dr. Spicer, who is a priest, conducts research primarily on modern Germany, most specifically on the relationship of the Catholic Church to the Nazi regime.

The awards honor the work of Dr. Charles Hildebrandt, KSC professor emeritus of sociology, who founded the Cohen Center.
