KSC Hosts State Geographic Bee

KEENE, N.H. 3/25/05 - The subject of geography will take center stage when Keene State College hosts the New Hampshire State Geographic Bee on Friday, April 1, in the Mabel Brown Room of the Student Center. Fourth- through eighth-graders from around the state will compete in the contest, with the winner to receive $100 and an all-expenses-paid trip to Washington, D.C., to compete in the National Geographic Bee in May.

Preliminary rounds will begin at 1:30 p.m. and the final round will start at 3 p.m. Jim Jeannotte of N.H. Public Television’s “Granite State Challenge” will moderate.

The state bee is the second level of the National Geographic Bee, which began in December with competitions in thousands of schools across the country. Each state-level participant won his or her school competition and placed among the top 100 scores on the subsequent written examination provided by the National Geographic Society.

Each state will send a contestant to the National Geographic Bee, which will be moderated by “Jeopardy” quiz show host Alex Trebek and will be aired as a prime-time PBS special. The winner of the National Geographic Bee will receive a $25,000 college scholarship.
