KEENE, N.H. 2/8/05 - Scholarly and artistic works on the subject of the Holocaust are eligible for submission to the annual Charles Hildebrandt Awards competition sponsored by the Cohen Center for Holocaust Studies at Keene State College. In addition to prizes for Keene State students, awards are also presented to high school and middle school students and other community members.

The awards ceremony will take place at the Yom HaShoah Holocaust commemoration on Monday, April 18, at 7:30 p.m., in the Redfern Arts Center on the KSC campus. The speaker will be Dr. Kevin Spicer of Stonehill College, speaking on the Catholic Church’s response to Nazism.

KSC students are eligible for $500 and $150 awards. The high school and community member awards are $100 each. A book award may be presented for a middle school entry. All submissions must be accompanied by a Hildebrandt Award application, available at www.keene.edu/cchs/award.cfm or by calling the Cohen Center at 603-358-2490. The deadline to receive all entries at the Center is Tuesday, March 22, at 4:30 p.m. Performing arts submissions will be reviewed on the morning of Friday, March 25.

The awards honor the work of Dr. Charles Hildebrandt, KSC professor emeritus of sociology, who founded the Cohen Center for Holocaust Studies.
