English Department to Host Poetry Readings

KEENE, N.H. 9/21/04 - Celia Bland, author of Soft Box, a collection of poems, and director of college writing at Bard College, will read from her work at Keene State on Monday, Sept. 27, 4 p.m., in the Mountain View Room of the Student Center. Bland, who has also written 13 children’s books, has had poems published in recent issues of Natural Bridge, Heliotrope, The Alembic, Chronogram, Entelechy, Prima Matera, and Sui Generis. The reading is sponsored by the English department and the School of Arts and Humanities.

Peter Makuck will read from his poetry and fiction on Tuesday, Oct. 5., at 4 p.m. in the Night Owl Café of the Student Center. Makuck is the author of 11 books, including seven collections of poetry, two collections of short stories, and several edited academic texts. His work has appeared in many well-known journals, including The Nation, Poetry, The Hudson Review, The Southern Review, and others. He edits Tar River Poetry, a biannual publication, and is currently distinguished professor in Modern American Literature and Creative Writing at East Carolina University.

The readings are free and open to the public.
