OSHA Training Center Offers Courses in March

KEENE, N.H. 2/17/03 - The Region I (New England) OSHA Training Institute Education Center, in Manchester, N.H., has scheduled ten safety courses in March. The Institute is authorized by the U.S. Department of Labor Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and Keene State Colleges Office of Continuing Education.

Unless otherwise noted, tuition for each course is $650 and classes take place at the Region I OSHA Training Institute located at Manchester Airport.

Principles of Ergonomics Applied to Work-Related Musculoskeletal and Nerve Disorders (OSHA 225) covers physiology, antropometry, musculoskeletal disorders, video display terminals, and risk factors such as vibration, temperature, manual handling, repetition, and continuous keyboard use. This course is scheduled March 3-6 and classes meet 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Wednesday and from 8:30 a.m. to noon on Thursday.

Excavation, Trenching, and Soil Mechanics (OSHA 301) focuses on OSHA standards for excavation and trenching and introduces practical soil mechanics and its relationship to the stability of shored and unshored slopes and walls of excavations. This course is offered March 10-13 and classes meet from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Wednesday and from 8:30 a.m. to noon on Thursday.

Fall Arrest Systems (OSHA 311) explores the principles of fall protection, the components of fall arrest systems, the limitations of fall arrest equipment, and OSHA policies regarding fall protection. The OSHA 311 course is scheduled March 24-27 and classes meet 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Wednesday, and 8:30 a.m. to approximately noon on Thursday.

Trainer Course in Occupational Safety and Health Standards for the Construction Industry (OSHA 500) trains the student to conduct 10- and 30-hour construction courses that earn participants OSHA cards. This course is offered March 17-21 meeting Monday through Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Friday from 8:30 a.m. to noon.

Trainer Course in Occupational Safety and Health Standards for General Industry (OSHA 501), intended for private-sector personnel from all types of industries, presents detailed information on how the provisions of the Occupational Safety and Health Act may be implemented in the workplace. This course is offered March 3-7 meeting Monday through Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Friday from 8:30 a.m. to noon.

Update for Construction Industry Outreach Trainers (OSHA 502) must be completed within four years of the date of trainer authorization; it is required by OSHA to maintain outreach instructor status. This course is scheduled March 24-26 and classes meet from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Monday and Tuesday, and 8:30 to noon on Wednesday. Tuition for each is $500.

Update for General Industry Outreach Trainers (OSHA 503) must be completed within four years of the date of trainer authorization; it is required by OSHA to maintain outreach instructor status. Two OSHA 503 courses are scheduled and tuition for each course is $500. An online/in-person course begins March 17 and must be completed within seven weeks. The course includes one classroom meeting from 1 to 4:30 p.m. on July 18 at the Region I OSHA Training Institute in Manchester, N.H. The other course is scheduled March 26-28 and classes meet from 1 to 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday and from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Thursday and Friday.

Occupational Safety and Health Standards for the Construction Industry (OSHA 510) introduces entry-level personnel to basic construction safety standards and is a prerequisite for attendance in other construction courses. This course is offered March 10-14 and classes meet Monday through Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Friday from 8:30 a.m. to noon.

Fall Prevention and Protection for Construction Employees (NCSH 424) makes construction workers and supervisors aware of the many potential fall hazards in construction and teaches them ways to eliminate or reduce these hazards. The one-day course is scheduled for March 7 from 8:30 to 4:30 p.m. Cost is $160.

Emergency Management and Community Defense (NCSH 428) provides emergency management personnel with up-to-date state and federal guidelines on community defense against weapons of mass destruction and other acts of terrorism. This course is offered March 31-April 4 and classes meet Monday through Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Friday from 8:30 a.m. to noon.
