Destination College Jr.

KEENE, N.H. 10/23/02 Keene State College has been selected as a host for Destination College Jr., an early college-awareness program designed to help young students and their families better understand the importance of planning early for college.

Destination College Jr. will be held in the Mountain View Room of the Student Center at KSC on Saturday. Nov. 2. The event is free and open to all eighth graders and their parents in the region, says Peggy Richmond, director of admissions at Keene State.

Parents are the greatest role models for children, explains Richmond. Their participation in this program strengthens the purpose of Destination College Jr., which is to increase college aspirations among young people by providing them with support and inspiration.

Destination College Jr., a program of the New Hampshire Higher Education Assistance Foundation (NHHEAF), was designed in response to a recent study conducted by the N.H. Center for Public Policy Studies which revealed that one-quarter of New Hampshires eighth grade students do not graduate from high school, says Christopher Seusing of NHHEAF. Fifteen colleges and universities in New Hampshire will host Destination College Jr. events during late October and early November. Each event will feature interactive workshops, a tour of the campus, and a scholarship raffle. For more information, visit www.destinationcollegejr.org.
