Surprise Visitors at Brickyard Pond

Brickyard Pond on a sunny day is a pleasant place to sit, reflect, read a book

Last week, humans shared the benches and gardens around the Pond with a number of equally relaxed looking, people-sized Styrofoam figures. The figures are the work of students from Chris Nitsches Sculpture 1 class. Chris, assistant professor of art/sculpture, explained that students had to choose a location around the Redfern Arts Center and then create a full-sized figure posed in some kind of action. Two students collaborated on each figure. This is a great first project, one that promotes camaraderie along with having something significant to show for their efforts, says Chris, who is beginning his first semester at Keene State.

The figures will be dismantled on Tuesday, Sept. 10.
