KSC Vice President For Academic Affairs Accepts Position in New York

KEENE, N.H. 1/10/02 Robert E. Golden, vice president for academic affairs at Keene State College, has accepted a position as provost and vice president for academic affairs at Plattsburg State University of New York, beginning July 1.

KSC President Stanley J. Yarosewick said that Dr. Golden has been an effective administrator and academic leader during his tenure at KSC. Im elated for Dr. Golden that he has this opportunity but Im disappointed for Keene State that he is going, Dr. Yarosewick said. Dr. Golden has been a key member of my leadership team and I will miss him greatly.

Dr. Golden began working at KSC in July 1995, after serving as dean of arts and sciences at Shippensburg University in Pennsylvania. Prior to that he held various teaching and administrative positions at the Rochester Institute of Technology. Dr. Golden holds an M.A. and a Ph.D. in English and American literature from the University of Rochester. He earned his bachelors degree at the University of Michigan.

During his time at KSC, Dr. Golden oversaw significant changes in academic affairs and provided stability and vision for the division, Dr. Yarosewick said.

He had a very positive relationship with our faculty, said the KSC president. He was willing to move forward to most effectively use College resources, which included giving faculty members the space they needed to develop new initiatives.

Among many projects, Dr. Golden co-chaired KSCs successful NEASC (New England Association of Schools and Colleges) reaccreditation self-study, helped stabilize the Colleges enrollment, and oversaw the development of such academic initiatives as the bi-annual public affairs. He also co-chaired KSCs information technology committee, which created the Colleges renewable five- year technology plan, and developed an academic affairs strategic plan as part of the Colleges broader planning efforts.

Plattsburgh State President Horace Judson said his colleges community would find Dr. Golden to be a very capable and qualified individual. Dr. Golden is very knowledgeable in the academic affairs arena and broadly in other areas as well, said Dr. Judson. Everyone I spoke with said Dr. Golden is a very experienced, effective and articulate administrator who listens to all constituents before coming to an informed decision. His professional training, past administrative experience and accomplishments have positioned him for this important role at Plattsburgh State. I look forward to having him join us in July.

The search for a new vice president for academic affairs at KSC will begin immediately, said Dr. Yarosewick.
