KSC Graphic Design Seniors Show Portfolios Dec. 7

KEENE, N.H. 11/29/01 - Keene State College graphic design seniors will open their portfolios for public review on Friday, Dec. 7, from 5 to 8 p.m. The Graphic Design Senior Portfolio Review will take place in the Thorne- Sagendorph Art Gallery, located on Wyman Way on the KSC campus.

Local businesspeople are encouraged to review the portfolios of graphic design seniors, most of whom are seeking employment upon graduation. The portfolio showcase is free and open to the public. For further information, call the KSC Art Department at 603-358-2040.

The portfolio review showcases each senior’s best design work produced while pursuing a bachelor of fine arts degree at Keene State. Each art student specializing in graphic design is required to take a portfolio seminar to plan and prepare a professional presentation of his or her work. During this class, seniors may develop new pieces and refine work completed in other art and graphic design classes.

The portfolio review coincides with the exhibition “Soon Come: The Art of Contemporary Jamaica” at the Thorne gallery. “Soon Come” (a Jamaican expression meaning “great things happen when the time is right”) brings together paintings, drawings, ceramics, sculptures, textiles, and mixed media works by 20 Jamaicans ranging from premier artists to self-taught individuals. The exhibit, which continues through Sunday, Dec. 9, explores the themes of nationalism, individual identity, the consequences of the Jamaican diaspora, and international influences in shaping Jamaican art.

The portfolio review and exhibit are free and open to the public. For information, call the Thorne Gallery at 603-358-2720.
