KSC Laxwomen Earn First Ever Tournament Bid

KEENE, N.H. 5/5/03- For the first time in the six-year history of the program, the Keene State College women’s lacrosse team has earned a post-season tournament berth.

The Owls (9-7) will be the seventh seed in the New England Division III Tournament, and will travel to second seed Springfield College (10-6) for an opening round game on Wednesday (7 p.m.).

“This is very exciting for us to get our first berth into the ECAC Tournament in program history,” said Emily Johnson, KSC’s second-year coach. “The quarter final game against Springfield is going to be a tough match-up, but the team is ready. We’ve been working towards this tournament since February and it feels great to be here now.”

KSC will be joined in the tournament by LEC teams Plymouth State and Eastern Connecticut. Mumber one seed Plymouth State (11-3) will host number eight seed Salve Regina (7-5) at 4:30 p.m. Number three seed Eastern Connecticut (8-5) will host number six Curry (8-6) at 4 p.m. while in the final first round game, number four seed Western New England (10-6) will host the number five seed Colby-Sawyer (9-6). The first-round winners will advance to the semifinals on Saturday, May 10th at the site of the highest remaining seed in each bracket. The semifinal winners will meet Sunday, May 11th at noon for the championship at the highest remaining seed.

Keene State advanced to the semifinals of the LEC Tournament where they lost (17-2) to eventual champ Plymouth State. The Owls’ first round opponent, Springfield College, lost in the NEWMAC title game to Wheaton College (10-7).
