KSC Professor to Teach in Slovakia

KEENE, N.H. 7/15/04 - Language barrier aside, Brian Green, assistant professor of sociology at Keene State College, says he is excited to be spending the spring 2005 semester teaching as a Fulbright Scholar in Slovakia.

Green will be based in Bratislava, the capital city of Slovakia, where he will teach a course on political sociology and social change in Eastern Europe at Comenius University.

Green says he expects his students will be politically and culturally aware of their history. “What I hope to do is take the information they have already and set it into a broader sociological framework,” Green explains. “I expect this will work both ways. I’ll teach them what I know and they’ll teach me what they know.

He also hopes to bring his students up to date with North American sociology and how American sociologists view the work of their counterparts in Eastern Europe.

This summer Green took a group of Keene State students to the Czech Republic, Slovakia, and Poland, where they studied social, geographic, and environmental issues.

The trip to Bratislava will be the latest of many for Green, who has studies and traveled extensively in Eastern Europe.
