Region I OSHA Education Center Offers 7 Courses in August

KEENE, N.H. 7/8/04 - The Region I (New England) OSHA Training Institute Education Center, in Manchester, N.H., has scheduled seven safety courses in August. The Institute is authorized by the U.S. Department of Labor Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and Keene State College’s Office of Continuing Education.

Most classes meet from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday and from 8:30 a.m. to noon on Friday. Unless otherwise noted, tuition for each course is $680 and classes take place at the Region I OSHA Training Institute at the Manchester Airport.

Occupational Safety and Health Standards for General Industry (OSHA 511) covers OSHA policies, procedures, and standards, as well as general industry safety and health principles. The course is scheduled Aug. 23-27.

Trainer Course in Occupational Safety and Health Standards for General Industry (OSHA 501) trains the student to conduct 10- and 30-hour general industry courses that earn participants OSHA cards. This course is scheduled Aug 9-13.

Machinery and Machine Guarding Standards (OSHA 2045) provides guidance in recognizing hazards such as those created by points of operation, ongoing nip tips, rotating parts, and flying chips or sparks, as well as some options for achieving abatement. The class meets Aug. 2-6.

Permit-Required Confined Space Entry (OSHA 2264) covers the OSHA confined space entry standard, hazards associated with entry procedures, ventilation and purging requirements, personal protective equipment, calculations and techniques, and appropriate atmosphere testing equipment and related limitations. The class meets Aug. 2-5 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday to Wednesday and from 8:30 a.m. to noon on Thursday.

Mobile Crane Hazards: Train-the-Trainer (NCSH 214) explains everything you need to know about managing mobile cranes on construction job sites. The class meets Thursday, Aug. 26 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tuition is $160.

Scaffold Users Course (NCSH 406) covers proper use of the scaffold, handling of materials on the scaffold, the maximum intended load of the scaffold, and other requirements. The class meets 8:30 to 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 18. Tuition is $160.

Accident Investigation (NCSH 407) presents various techniques and procedures used in investigating accidents, with special emphasis on those procedures used in the industrial environment. The course meets 8:30 to 4:30 p.m. Monday to Wednesday, Aug. 16-18. Tuition is $510.
