KSC Chamber Singers & Concert Choir Sing Musical Theatre Hits (4/23/04)

KEENE, N.H. 4/5/04 - Songs from Oklahoma, Sound of Music, Man of LaMancha, Phantom of the Opera, and other Broadway musicals will be performed by the Keene State College Chamber Singers and Concert Choir on Friday, April 23 at 7:30 p.m. in the Alumni Recital Hall of the Redfern Arts Center on Brickyard Pond. Professor Carroll Lehman will conduct the singers and choir, who will be accompanied by pianist George Loring, KSC artist-in-residence, and a small combo of bass and drums. Tickets are $7 for the general public and $5 for KSC students, senior citizens, and youth age 17 or younger. Call the box office at 603-358-2168.

The KSC Chamber Singers, a select group of 25 singers, will perform songs from Rent, Music Man, Purlie, Jesus Christ Superstar, Naughty Marietta, Evita, Phantom of the Opera, and many more musicals. The KSC Concert Choir, a group of 18 female singers, will perform songs from Cats, Oklahoma!, The Sound of Music, Man of La Mancha, and Gershwin musicals.

Many of the student singers in both choruses will perform solos during the concert.

Professor Lehman, a member of the Keene State faculty since 1978, also is the conductor and music director of the Monadnock Chorus and Orchestra in Peterborough. Under his direction, the chorus has toured Italy, Austria, Germany, Spain, Portugal, Greece, and Scandinavia. He also conducted the New Hampshire Friendship Chorus on tours of Russia, Latvia, Estonia, and South Africa. Lehman also formed the KSC Oratorio Society, which has performed many major choral masterworks with orchestra.
