Women's and Gender Studies Annual Lecture: Critical Race Feminisms and Tap Dance

Alumni Center - Centennial Hall
Thursday, · -

What does Jim Crow and the new Jim Crow have to do with tap dance? Does tap dance abroad deracialize itself in the "universal language of rhythm"? And what does it mean to tap dance and discuss the history and legacy of slavery in the whitest states in the nation? In this talk, Dr. Sonja Thomas of Colby College will discuss the challenges faced by a professor of color and by students of all races while studying material that analyzes race and dismantles racist heteropatriarchies.
