Teaching Innovation Studio

Huntress 012
Thursday, · -

The Group for Teaching Innovation, in collaboration with CELT, invites you to our next Teaching Innovation Studio. Many of us have used concept maps--diagrams that illustrate relationships between concepts--in our classrooms, research, or as students for brainstorming and to develop paper topics. But concept maps can be used for a wide variety of purposes beyond these, including facilitating discussions, exploring questions and possible solutions as an aid to problem solving, and assessing changes in students’ understanding or achievement of outcomes. In this studio we will explore and discuss the variety of potential applications of concept maps in teaching and learning. Sarah McGregor, Assistant Professor, Physics will share her efforts to use concept maps to assess student learning in science courses and participants will be invited to discuss the readings (see below) and share their own experiences and challenges using concept maps in and out of the classroom.
