KSC Percussion Ensemble performance

The Keene State Percussion Ensemble, directed by Christopher Swist, presents a “Handheld” semester concert. The group will perform exclusively on instruments or objects held in the hand. This includes tuned pieces of wood, triangles, tambourines, Egyptian riqs, North African tars, Irish bodhrans, ocean drums, Bic lighters, radios, conch shell, Australian didgeridoo, Brazlian berimbau, and even newspapers or magazines.

Several diverse musical styles such as rhythmic canon, traditional North African, minimalism, and music of chance will be presented through compositions by John Cage, Glen Velez, Steve Reich, Emmanuel Sejourne, and Eugene Novotney. The feature of the program is Glen Velez’s Handance that blends traditional frame drums with step motion and rhythmic cycles inspired by Arabic and Indian music.

Join us for this unique program at the Redfern’s Alumni Recital Hall Thursday, November 29, 2018 at 7:30pm for a not-to-be-missed evening of rhythm!

Tickets are $5 for students and seniors, $10 for adults. Please contact the Box Office at (603) 358-2168 for more information.

This event is part of the RAC Music Department calendar and is open to the public.
