Professor Randall Balmer is the John Phillips Professor in Religion and Director, Society of Fellows at Dartmouth College. He is an award winning and Emmy nominated historian of religion in American life with focus on the American Evangelical tradition. He served as an expert witness in several First Amendment Cases including the "Ten Commandments" trial of Roy Moore. This lecture examines the origins of the religious right in the late 1970s in an attempt to account for the fact that 81 percent of white evangelicals voted for Donald Trump in the 2016 presidential election.
