C.A.L.M., Counseling on Access to Lethal Means
Suicide is the second leading cause of death for young people ages 15 to 24 in New Hampshire and tenth cause of death for those of all ages. Many attempters are as ambivalent about suicide as they are about life. Preventing these suicides is a complex puzzle requiring all of us to work collaboratively to complete the picture. One piece of that puzzle that has proven effective is the reduction of access to lethal means – particularly firearms and medications.
This interactive workshop addresses why and how to accomplish restricting access to lethal means. The workshop includes: a PowerPoint presentation regarding the importance of CALM, a model videotaped counseling session, discussion, and role plays.
CALM is recognized on the Suicide Prevention Resource Center (SPRC) and American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) Best Practice Registry, Section III.
Must pre-register.
