Guitar Orchestra & Latin American Ensemble
The Keene State College Guitar Orchestra, and Keene State Latin American Ensemble, “Cotopaxi,” under the direction of Dr. Jose Lezcano, Professor of Music, will present a program titled, “One World, Many Musics,” on Nov. 12, Wednesday, 7:30 pm, in Alumni Recital Hall.
The 11-member Latin American Ensemble, “Cotopaxi,” will present music of the Andes, including Ecuador, Bolivia, and Peru, on panpipes, charango, and bombo. They will be assisted by members of the KSC Flute Choir and KSC Guitar Orchestra.
The 11-member Guitar Orchestra will present works from Spain, France, Britain, Romania, the US, and China, by Torroba, Debussy, Duarte, Bartok, Reich, and others. A theme of the concert is how folk-music traditions have impacted art-music or concert-music in many countries. Examples could include Bela Bartok’s use of Romanian rhythms and scales hybridized with European modernism, or Steve Reich’s use of rhythmic patterns and cycles inspired by his study of Ghanian drumming.
