Friday of the Purple Hand
The Friday of the Purple Hand is a day that commemorates the protest of The San Francisco Examiner's use derogatory language towards LGBTQ bars and clubs that ended with the protesters being doused in bags of purple ink by those in the building. In response, the protesters took their hands, covered in purple ink, and made purple handprints on the building. Remembering this day gives power to LGBTQ+ people all over the country in the knowledge that they cannot be silenced in being their true selves.
