KSC Seminar/Webinar Series: Undoing the Gender Binary in Fitness

Mason Library - 240
Wednesday, · -

Presented by Dr. Melanie Adams, Human Performance and Movement Sciences, and Liz Winsor and Sophie Hatch, Exercise Science students: In exercise, the belief that gender dictates physical ability is embedded in activity selection, space allocation, and fitness testing. Gender stereotypes narrowly define femininity and masculinity, further limiting access for females, transgender, non-binary, and gender non-conforming people. Our research team is trying to reshape the gendered culture of fitness by developing a non-binary push-up test. In this talk, student researchers will highlight lessons from two studies and describe future plans for the non-binary push-up test. Presented in person and via Zoom (https://keene.zoom.us/j/87527648670).
