KSC Seminar/Webinar Series: Why does the environmental movement look so white? People of all races are deeply committed to protecting the environment.

Wednesday, · -

Presented by Dr. Denise Burchsted, Environmental Studies, Geography, and Sustainability: Picture an environmentalist. Who do you see? Most people envision a person with light skin, which also reflects environmental leadership positions. However, in survey after survey, people of color care as much as - or more than - white people care about environmental issues, and people of color are more likely to take action. This talk presents work of environmentalists of color to explore their lack of representation. The environmental movement must acknowledge and address these underlying issues, so humanity as a whole can address our ecological crisis, together.
