Virtual Screening of Dawnland and Dear Georgina
Greetings!
People around the world echo the belief that we live in unprecedented times. We speak up to denounce white supremacy, protest racial violence, denounce entrenched interests that fail to address the climate catastrophe, and fight for justice to heal our broken world. With Indigenous Peoples' Day just days away, we work to get out the vote and educate ourselves about how to stop a coup d'état. And, when joining with others, we are rethinking our society and declaring that business as usual imperils us all. To work towards these goals we offer these opportunities for learning and gathering in (digital) community to honor Indigenous People's Day!
Dawnland- For decades, child welfare authorities have been removing Native American children from their homes to save them from being Indian. In Maine, the first official “truth and reconciliation commission” in the United States begins a historic investigation. Dawnland goes behind-the-scenes as this historic body grapples with difficult truths, redefines reconciliation, and charts a new course for state and tribal relations.
Dear Georgina- Georgina Sappier-Richardson, a Passamaquoddy elder, journeys into an unclear past to better understand herself and her cultural heritage.
