Communications/External Relations intern
Willingness to support the American Red Cross mission
Represent the Red Cross in a professional manner
Respond to assigned requests with accurate information
Draft news releases and other written public relations documents such as talking points, Public Service Announcements, media kits and stories of clients and or event honorees
Update media contact lists as needed
Research potential in-kind advertising opportunities within specific communities.
Support and develop creative promotional items such as newsletters, powerpoint presentations, event materials and fliers along with content for chapter website
Assist with the development of Region's communication calendar.
Develop written content for region's blog and web site as needed
Excellent communication skills; both verbal and written
Ability to write press releases and other media relations materials
Basic social media knowledge including blogging
Familiarity with photography and videography techniques. Video editing skills are a plus
Experience with graphic design a plus
Effective organizational and prioritization skills
Ability to work in a fast-pace setting a plus
Must successfully complete a criminal background check
The American Red Cross prepares for and responds to disasters locally, across the country and throughout the world and provides emergency assistance and support to victims of disaster; conducts blood drives and provides a large portion of the nations blood supply; helps military personnel and their loved ones connect during times of emergency and disaster; misc
