Coordinator-Environmental Health & Safety (part-time)
The Coordinator maintains and promotes policies, procedures, programs and training necessary to maintain a safe and health environment for students, faculty, staff and visitors. In addition, this position ensures college compliance with federal, state and local environmental health and safety laws, codes, regulations, ordinances and licenses. This position is a 20 hour per week role (some flexibility with the days/hours).
The general responsibilities include: collaborating with all college departments and units to develop, implement and promote health and safety monitoring and training; developing and implementing solutions to environmental health and safety problems. This position also serves as the campus fire marshal and coordinates fire drills; assists with emergency response planning for the college; conducts safety training for staff, seasonal employees, faculty and students including Bloodborne Pathogen Training; Safe Driver Training; Safe Lifting; Personal Protective Equipment Training: Hazard Communication; Hazardous Waste and Satellite Accumulation Area Training: RCRA Training; Spill Prevention Control and Countermeasures Training; Asbestos Awareness and Golf Cart Safety. The Coordinator will review work stations for ergonomic concerns and will make recommenations for remediation. They will Chair the College-wide Health & Safety Committee; assist committees with problem identification and remediation; policy development; procedures committee charges and compliance issues. Additionally, the Coordinator will assist the College in interactions with environmental health and safety regulatory agencies, including OSHA, Massachusetts DEP and EPA; prepare budgets and monitor expenses against budget; maintain the safety and environmental records for the college, including but not limited to MSDS Sheets, Tier II reports, integrated Pest Management (IPM)Plans, hazardous waste disposal manifests, training records,etc. The coordinator will also serve as advisor/resource for facility and laboratory design and the design of hazardous material storage and handling areas and perform monthly inspections of hazardous waste accumulation areas.
Requirements: Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Science or Industrial Engineering (or a closely related field) with two to five years of experience in management of environmental health and safety programs, preferably at an institution of higher learning. A valid Driver's License with an acceptable driving record is required.
